Biography: Megan Dawson - First Prize

 

Megan Dawson is an eighteen year old student who is currently completing her first year in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at the University of Alberta.

She is a graduate of Bellerose Composite High School in St. Albert, Alberta where she received an International Baccalaureate diploma. Her favourite subjects while in high school were English and History. Megan first became aware of Holodomor when asked to select a topic for a position paper, a component of her grade twelve history class. Megan decided to write about Holodomor because she found it shocking that she had never learned about such a tragic event which contributed to so many deaths in Ukraine.

Megan enjoys many pastimes including reading, participating in cultural events, swimming, trivia, and spending time outdoors. She has spent the past two summers as a bursary student studying French at Laval University in Quebec City, and hopes to continue her studies by working at a bilingual camp in the summer. She hopes to learn more languages in the future.
